Jane [Rommrell Hammond Pierce] made her surroundings beautiful with flowers and trees and sold produce from her garden. She sewed the families clothing, including her own, stitch by stitch and sold produce from her garden to support herself. She was educated in English and French and the Indians taught her the medicinal value of herbs.
