Individual 2/Little Soldier’s Wife

Individual 2 is an unidentified woman, but has been labeled as being Little Soldier‘s wife and also appeared in a photo with individual 4, possibly individual 5, and another unidentified person associated with individual 4.

According to his obituary, Little Soldier had four wives. His obituary also states that only one wife was still alive by the time of his death in 1884, and that she was called Wango-bit-y. However, genealogical information provided by Little Soldier’s great-granddaughter, Florence Garcia, indicates that a different wife, Mary/Unin-tivoo, survived until the early 1900s. Florence also provided information on Wango-bit-y and a third wife, Negess.

Photos were taken in Salt Lake City, Utah, between late 1860s-early 1870s.

The high-quality photos come from the C.W. Carter glass plate negative collection, the others from various auction and collector sites.
