The first highway from Ogden northward followed an existing Indian trail

Copied from Beneath Ben Lomond’s Peak: A History of Weber County, 1824-1900, pg 380

The first highway from Ogden northward followed an Indian trail as far as North Ogden, and then veered westward along the base of Ben Lomond to the Utah Hot Springs. The easiest route to the south was near the site of the present highway, following below the sand hills. The first pioneer settlers from Salt Lake City followed this route. Later it became the principal route into Weber County, known eventually as the Territorial Road.
