Note: while 1776 may feel like ancient history compared to today and even to the Mormon pioneers’ arrival in 1847, remember that many of the prominent people mentioned on this site were born only a generation or two away from then. This is a time when their grandparents and great-grandparents were in their prime. Brigham Young’s own mother and father were around 11 years old and 13 years old, respectively, during this year.
